The Nobel Prize Summit on Countering Misinformation and Building Trust in Science will take place from May 24th to 26th. Over the course of three days, international experts and Nobel laureates will examine the spread of misinformation and falsehoods, their impact on science and democracy, and potential solutions to foster healthier information environments.
Organized by the National Academy of Sciences and the Nobel Foundation, the summit highlights the seriousness of the issue and the need for action. Participants will discuss topics such as health-related disinformation, global collaboration, and youth initiatives aimed at promoting reliable information.
Additionally, there will be a deliberative exercise to explore methods for developing policy proposals that represent the perspectives of citizens. The summit aims to combat misinformation, build trust, and promote truth.
The discussions are organized by the
Stanford Deliberative Democracy Lab and will be conducted through a deliberative polling exercise, where participants will engage in virtual group discussions of around 10 people. Prior to the deliberation, participants will complete a pre-deliberation survey to gather their initial opinions and perspectives. During the deliberations, participants will have the opportunity to discuss and exchange thoughts and ideas on policies related to the information landscape.
In addition, there will be plenary sessions involving experts and decision-makers who will provide their insights. Participants will also complete a post-deliberation survey to evaluate any changes in their opinions and attitudes following the discussions.
The aim of these discussions is to promote informed and reasoned dialogue, allowing participants to express their views and reach consensus or understanding from different perspectives. By participating in these deliberations, individuals will have the opportunity to learn more about current issues and enhance their understanding of various policies that impact the information landscape.
